Islamabad United faced Quetta Gladiators in the ninth match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Sharjah on Wednesday. Both teams went into the match after winning one and losing one out of their two matches.

United faced defeat against Zalmi in their first match but outclassed Multan Sultans in the second match whereas Gladiators faced defeat against Karachi Kings in their first match but defeated Lahore Qalandars in the next match.

This time United experienced another 6-wicket defeat against a clinical Quetta Gladiators side. Winning the toss, Quetta opted to bowl first in this match.

Quetta bowled brilliantly and did not let Islamabad score more than 134 runs while dismissing seven of their batsmen. Luke Ronchi was the highest scorer among the batsmen amassing 43 runs before getting out bowled by Hasan Khan.

Jean-Paul Duminy made 14 runs and was out by Hastings. Islamabad skipper Misbah-ul-Haq scored 22 runs before getting dismissed by Shane Watson. While the four other batsmen failed to reach 10 runs, Faheem Ashraf tried to take the team to a decent total with his innings of 21 runs.

John Hastings and Rahat Ali also scalped a wicket apiece for Quetta while two Islamabad batsmen fell prey to runouts.

Coming on to chase the total, Gladiators lost three wickets in the first six overs of their innings and posted only 48 runs in the process. Steven Finn was effective enough to dismiss both the openers of the team. Asad Shafiq was out scoring 22 runs and Shane Watson made 13 runs. Umar Amin was bowled out by Mohammad Sami on 6 runs.

Kevin Pietersen and Mohammad Nawaz then shared a 70-run stand to take their team closer to the target. Pietersen was also sent back to the hut by Finn but he had already done his job by then as he added 48 runs to the total. Nawaz remained unbeaten scoring 25 runs. Quetta skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed was also not out scoring 7 runs as his side went past the target with 11 balls remaining.
