Shakib Al Hasan is expected to return from Thailand on Wednesday. He went there to take a second opinion following consultation with experts. Chairman of Akram Khan suggested that he might miss one or two matches in the upcoming Nidahas Trophy.

“He went for a checkup. We will know after he arrives today but he is going with the team. If everything stays okay then he might miss one or two matches but the hope is that there is a possibility that he will play. First [match] maybe 50-50,” said Akram Khan.

According to him, victories are important for the team at the moment to recover from the disappointing series that they had against Sri Lanka. He also said that Bangladesh are comparatively a weak side in the shortest format. However, he is confident of something positive as this team have previously defeated the island nation in Sri Lanka.

“It is true that we could not perform the way we needed to. The start was good but the performance at the end was not. At this moment, Bangladesh’s victory is very important. If you can win matches, everyone will be strong both physically and mentally.

“Sri Lanka are very strong in their own backyard. We are relatively weak in T20Is compared to Tests and ODIs. We were not able to set things well at the end [in the previous series]. It will take time.

“We defeated Sri Lanka with this team. Performance is like a wave. It never stays at the peak. Hopefully, we'll be in a better condition than we currently are in,” he said.

The 49-year-old also said that it will be tough against India regardless of the absence of some of their senior players as they have a lot of potential stand-in options.

He stated, “India is a team that has lots of backup players. Whoever gets to play gives their 100 percent. They know that this is a chance. Yes, if you see the names and see the renowned senior players’ names aren’t there, they'll have the confidence against them. Hopefully, we can do this.”

Regarding hiring Michael Bevan or Neil Mckenzie as batting coach, Akram Khan confirmed that the talks are going on and refused to reveal who is actually going to be appointed.

“We are continuing our efforts and talks are ongoing. There are some formalities left. Maybe it will be accomplished within a few days. That cannot be said [who we are getting] at this moment because there is a restriction from their side about this going to the media,” he concluded.
