Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB] CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury has clarified the confusion regarding the head-coach issue of the Tigers. Bangladesh bowling-coach Courtney Walsh has been appointed as interim coach ahead of the Nidahas Trophy. Hence, the search for a head coach is still on for the Tigers.

“It is not like Halsall will not remain an assistant coach,” Nizam Uddin said. “Richard Halsall is still our assistant coach. The whole decision was taken surrounding Nidahas Trophy. Courtney Walsh is the head coach, but he will remain so only during the Nidahas Trophy.”

“We have taken an internal decision that Simon Helmot, the HP head coach, will be the batting coach in the Nidahas Trophy. His experience at coaching T20 teams from around the world was taken into consideration. We have also appointed Champaka Ramanayake as the bowling coach for this tournament. We have limited our support staff for this short time.

“We're working on a few options. The president has already said that it can’t happen before the [upcoming] series. Hopefully, we will be able to decide the head coach as soon as possible,” he added.

Bangladesh assistant coach Richard Halsall will miss the Nidahas Trophy as he is currently on holiday. The Zimbabwean likely to join Bangladesh team before West Indies and Afghanistan series.

“Halsall will not be with the team on this tour. He is currently on vacation. There are discussions going on regarding a tour of West Indies and a series against Afghanistan. If that happens then he will join the camp.”

Bangladesh Test & T20I skipper Shakib Al Hasan has not recovered from his finger injury until now. According to the CEO, he is currently in Thailand for a second opinion. However, the ace all-rounder will get to Sri Lanka with the team.

“Shakib went to Thailand last night in order to take a second opinion. Today he has appointments with Thailand's two Orthopedics specialists. Then he will return. I hope he will go to Sri Lanka with the team,” said Nizam Uddin.

Sri Lankan curator Gamini de Silva previously faced criticism for delivering a slow and low wicket which certainly did not offer Bangladesh any home advantage during the tri-nation series. BCB has been planning on bringing one or two more curators. Nazim Uddin Chowdhury revealed that they are currently in talks with Pravin Hingnikar.

He said, “We are in the process of recruiting a curator. Gamini has been with us for a long time. We have plans bringing one or two more curators from abroad. Following this process, we had a meeting with a curator. If everything is okay, then he will join the Bangladesh Cricket Board very soon.”

For the upcoming tournament in Sri Lanka, there will be a training camp on 2nd March and Bangladesh team will go to Sri Lanka two days after the camp starts.

Nizam Uddin stated, “According to our preliminary plan, a training camp based on the tour of Sri Lanka will start on March 2, during the Sri Lanka tour. They will go to Colombo on March 4.”
