Islamabad cruise to victory despite initial collapse

After a brief delay due to rain, the clash between Islamabad United and Multan Sultans started with the latter being sent to bat first. Islamabad justified their decision by bowling brilliantly and restricting the opponent to a substandard total of 113 runs.

United skipper Rumman Raees, with his splendid bowling spells, scalped three wickets. Andre Russell and Mohammad Sami bagged two wickets each while Steven Finn took one wicket.

Except for a 54-run partnership between Shoaib Malik and Kieron Pollard, Multan never stood a chance against the clinical bowling attack of the Islamabad-based franchise. Malik scored 35 runs while Pollard posted 28 runs and both of them eventually got dismissed by Russell. Except for another 11-run innings from Ahmed Shahzad, no batsmen went past 10 runs in the 1st innings.

While chasing the target of 114 runs, Islamabad too had difficulties in the beginning. Losing 5 wickets at 63 runs, the batting team needed some stability and a decent partnership to cruise to victory.

While both of Luke Ronchi and Andre Russell were out for a duck, Sahibzada Farhan managed two collect 9 runs. Chadwick Walton tried to restore their innings and played a crucial innings of 28 runs.

Hussain Talat and Faheem Ashraf together stood firm for United and stitched a 54-run unbeaten stand to lift the team past the target. Talat clubbed 48 off 34 while Faheem provided him enough support and kept rotating the strike with his calm and composed innings of 12 runs from 20 deliveries.

Imran Tahir tried his best to halt Islamabad United by taking 3 scalps and Mohammad Irfan and Junaid Khan also contributed by bagging a wicket each but somehow failed to meet what was required.
