Dhoni eyeing a unique half-century

India wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is in front of another milestone ahead of their final clash against South Africa in the three-T20I series. In his T20I career, the 36-year-old has affected 78 dismissals, the most by any wicketkeeper in the shortest form of international cricket.
Although the World Cup-winning captain does not hold the record of most number of stumpings in T20Is, his number of catches as a wicketkeeper is undoubtedly second to none. In 88 T20Is, Dhoni has taken 49 catches and stands just one catch away from reaching the landmark of 50 catches from behind the stumps.
Dhoni stands atop West Indian Dinesh Ramdin who has 32 catches to his name as a keeper. Following the former India skipper, Kamran Akmal stands second in the wicketkeepers’ most career dismissals list with 60 dismissals. The Pakistan cricketer also holds the record for highest number of stumpings—32, followed by Dhoni’s 28 stumpings.

Dhoni has affected 776 dismissals in his international career which makes him third on the list after Mark Boucher and Adam Gilchrist, who have led 998 and 905 dismissals, respectively. Dhoni stands after these two players along with Ian Healy and Rod Marsh when it comes to Tests only. And the same two players alongside Kumar Sangakkara stands over Dhoni for the number of dismissals in ODIs.
India will take on the Proteas in the series-decider on Saturday where they would surely like to seal the series and witness Dhoni reach a new height in his career.
