Stars shine to grab first win


Today the battle of the crosstown rivals saw Melbourne Stars
defeat the Melbourne Renegades by 23 runs. This is the 1st win for
the Stars in this season of the Big Bash League as they had lost all five of
their encounters before this.
Winning the toss, Melbourne Renegades chose to bowl first.
They picked up 4 wickets of the Melbourne Stars after conceding 167 runs.
Mohammad Nabi picked up 2 wickets for his side, while Jack Wildermuth and Kane
Richardson bagged a wicket each.
Among the batsmen of the Stars Kevin Pietersen played the
highest individual innings of 74 runs. Their opener Peter Handscomb made 41 runs.
Both Glenn Maxwell and James Faulkner remained unbeaten on 31 runs and 10 runs,
respectively.

Melbourne Renegades could not exhibit any winning spirit and
posted a total of 144 runs losing 9 wickets in 20 overs. The Stars’ bowlers
were brilliant and kept taking wickets while not allowing much runs to offer
their team a much awaited win.
Jackson Coleman scalped 3 wickets, while both Daniel Worrall
and John Hastings took 2 wickets apiece. James Faulkner and Evan Gulbis also
got 1 wicket each.
None of the batsmen of the Ranegades could put up a good
display as a result their skipper—Dwayne Bravo’s 26 runs was the highest
individual innings from the team.
Melbourne Renegades will play their next match against
Adelaide Striker on 22nd January. Melbourne Stars will take on
Sydney Sixers on 16th January at their homeground.
