Australia legend would bring Maxwell back in the team

Australia legend Ricky Ponting is of the opinion that he
would put Glenn Maxwell back in the squad for the ODI team. The batting
all-rounder was left out of the original ODI squad for the upcoming series
against England, but has seen a glimmer of hope with Chris Lynn’s injury.
As a result, he could be called back—and Ricky Ponting, for
one, believes that he should be. The former captain brought up the point made
up by captain Steven Smith, that Maxwell should train better. Punter hopes that he might
have already taken those words in and will act according to it.
"I would put him back into the squad," Ponting
said in Network Ten commentary. "There was a lot made when he was left
out, the chairman of selectors and Steve Smith laid it on the line pretty
clearly what they wanted to see from him.
"That was along the lines of 'train better and train
smarter' and I think Trevor Hohns said something about playing a bit smarter as
well.

"So you would like to think he has listened to all that
– he knows what he has to do now when he goes back into that squad.”
And now, there is a chance that he is picked up after Lynn
had to drop out of the squad. Punter believes that there is nobody better than
Maxwell to take up the middle order slot before adding that he can unleash his
best on the international circuit if he did absorb every criticism that has
been made on him.
"An opportunity has presented itself earlier than what
Maxwell might have thought, if they actually go ahead and pick him.
"And as far as I'm concerned I don't think there's a
better middle-order batsman than him to take that spot.
"So as long as he's learnt his lesson and listened to what those people have had to say, absolutely I think he can go back to international cricket and dominate."
