Makhaya Ntini is a legend for Africa. The South African pacer is one of the most revered figures in the world of cricket and will always be one of the light-bearers for South Africa. After retiring from cricket, the right-handed pacer took up the role of the bowling coach of Zimbabwe.

However, he has left his position with Zimbabwe effective immediately. In a regretful announcement, Zimbabwe Cricket revealed that the pacer had left his job, much to the disappointment of the board, who accepted his resignation “reluctantly.”

"It is with regret that Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) announces that Makhaya Ntini, the National Team Bowling Coach, has tendered his resignation from ZC, with immediate effect.

"Makhaya has brought a wealth of experience and practical knowledge to ZC, and ZC and its players and coaching staff were fortunate to have had an opportunity to work closely with him during this period, and to learn from his many years of playing for Cricket South Africa at the highest level."

"While reluctantly accepting his resignation, ZC fully appreciates and respects the reasons behind Makhaya's decision, and wishes him all the very best for the future."

Last year, Cricinfo revealed in a report that ZC were unlikely to renew the former right-handed pacer’s contract with the team. This news comes just before the team’s tri-nation series against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the former country.

A devastating news for Zimbabwe Cricket at such an important time.
