New Zealand complete whitewash

After a 3-0 deficit in the Test series, West Indies go through yet another whitewash. New Zealand won the 3rd ODI by 66 runs against the Windies at Christchurch.


Each side faced a total of 23 overs in the rain-curtailed match today. New Zealand, winning the toss, batted first and registered a total of 131 runs losing 4 wickets.


Before the 5-hour long raining session, 19 overs were bowled. Following the decision of a 23-over match, New Zealand then came on to the field and scored 48 runs in the remaining 4 overs.


Cottrell dismissed both George Worker and Neil Broom at 2 runs, while Holder got the wicket of another opener Colin Munro who had made 21 runs before getting out.

Nikita Miller bagged the wicket of Tom Latham. Kiwi captain, keeper-batsman Latham, posted 37 runs before leaving the ground. Ross Taylor remained unbeaten at 47 runs alongside his partner Henry Nicholls who played an innings of 18 runs at a strike rate of 200.


D/L method set a target of 166 runs for the Caribbean team. The West Indian team finished their 23 overs of batting by making 99 runs losing 9 wickets.


Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner took 3 wickets each, while Matt Henry picked up 2 wickets and Todd Astle bagged 1.


West Indian skipper, Jason Holder, played the highest individual innings of 34 runs for his team. Nikita Miller and Shannon Gabriel were not-out scoring 20 and 12 runs respectively. West Indies kept losing wickets from the beginning and gave away 5 wickets scoring the first 9 runs.



Ross Taylor won the Man of the Match award for his sensible knock. Trent Boult was the Man of the Series for taking 10 wickets in 3  matches.


West Indies now have the 1st T20I of the 3-match series to make things better this year, whereas the Black Caps will be looking forward to win that match to take the first step towards sealing that series and ending the year in style.
