'Bangladesh will win a big tournament in future' - Sri Lanka legend

Former Sri Lanka captain and legendary left-handed batsman,
Kumar Sangakkara has lavished praise on the current scenario of the Bangladesh
cricket and its players. The World Cup finalist captain was full of praise for
the youngster and enthused that Bangladesh’s steady rise is something that
should be admired.
The wicketkeeper-batsman has played in the Bangladesh
Premier League and has seen the local youngsters closely, which puts him in the
perfect spot to assess their talents. And that’s the place from which he claims
that the likes of Mustafizur and Mehedy Hasan Miraz will become world class
players if groomed correctly.
“If they get the right grooming, Miraz, Mossadek (Hossain)
and Mustafizur can beome world class players,” enthused Sangakkara.
“The Bangladesh cricket team have been consistently playing
well since the 2015 World Cup. While they might not have won any trophies, they
have achieved milestones like winning their 100th Test, reaching the semi-final
in the Champions Trophy and beating Australia in Tests—these aren’t small
achievements.

Sangakkara then further lauded the steady improvement of the
team, labelling it as “unbelievable” and also praised the Tigers’ ability to
perform in the international competitions.
“The rise of the Bangladesh cricket team in the past few
years is unbelievable.
“There are many teams that do well at home, but Bangladesh
have also done well in the international competitions.
“They won against Sri Lanka at Sri Lanka in both Tests and
ODIs. Now they have a winning mentality in the squad, something which will
bring them glory—I believe that Bangladesh team will win something big in the
near future.
Sangakkara didn’t end there, though, as he also warned the
youngsers to have a steady level of discipline to reach the top because talent
alone won’t get them there, citing the example of Shakib al-Hasan in the
process.
“Shakib didn’t become the best all-rounder in a day. To be
the best, hard work and perseverance is needed.
“The likes of Mossadek, Miraz and Mustafizur are playing in
the same team as Shakib and Mushfiqur, so the senior players’ experience will
rub off on the. However, the important thing to have discipline outside the
pitch—they have to keep in an eye out on that too.”
