Run-galore at WACA puts Australia ahead

Australia capitalise on their chances as England fail to
exploit both of the centuries scored by their batsmen. Today's game broke many
a records at WACA as Australia are leading the first innings by 149 runs after
day-3.
With their third highest, yet to be beaten, 5th wicket stand of 301 against England followed by Don Bradman-Sid Barnes' 405 and Allan Border-Steve Waugh's 332*, Steve Smith and Mitchell Marsh gave Aussies their cherished lead.
Steve ended the day standing on 229, while his partner, Mitch Marsh, is still 19 runs short of scoring his first ever double-ton.
The Aussie captain is the 1st player to score a double-hundred in an Ashes Test at home since 2002. The previous occasion took place at MCG in 2002 when Langer played a sensational innings of 250 runs. He is also the second non-opener to score 200 for the Baggy Green in an Ashes Test at home after Don Bradman in 1946, the first being Bob Cowper who had scored 307 at MCG in 1966.

This is the first time when both teams involved in the clash registered a 200+ runs' partnership for the fifth wicket. Both the centurions of England gifted their team with a 237 runs' partnership in England's first innings of batting.
Smith also became the captain with the highest number of runs scored in an innings at WACA leaving greats like Bob Simpson and Clive Lloyd behind.
Steve Smith and his team's comeback figure Marsh, own the first two places respectively for the best individual score in an innings of an Ashes Test at WACA, while Dawid Malan's innings of 140 in the same Test stands 5th.
The Australian skipper also surpassed his previous best score of 215 runs, while taking the 2nd spot for the all-time best Test average as his average of 62.89 went past Adam Voges' 61.87
England's score of 403 in their first innings looks somewhat helpless before Australia's total of 549 for 4. The Australian batsmen tomorrow will surely add to English bowlers' miseries as they look determined to seal the series and regain the Urn.
A better farewell could not have been offered to WACA as the batsmen of both sides have already showered the ground with four centuries, one being double the landmark.
