Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the best captains in the history of the game shared former England captains Michael Vaughan and Nasser Hussain while paying a tribute to him who quit international cricket on Saturday.
Dhoni is the only captain to win all three ICC trophies. Known as ‘Captain Cool’, MS Dhoni-led India to World Cup titles in 2007 (Twenty20) and 2011 (50-over), apart from their 2013 Champions Trophy win.
Under his reign, India became the top-ranked test team. However, he announced his retirement through an Instagram post.

“What an incredible international career. You could argue the greatest ever white-ball captain & finisher,” tweeted Vaughan.
On the other hand, Hussain also praised MS Dhoni’s ability to finish the game in style. He gave the example of the 2011 World Cup final when Dhoni sealed India’s win with a maximum. “A great captain, probably the best white-ball captain there has ever been,” Hussain said to Sky Sports. “And also a cool, calm customer under pressure; a great finisher of a game, the game wasn’t won until you got Dhoni out.”
MS Dhoni amassed 17,000 international runs across formats and made successfully 800 victims as wicketkeeper as well. However, spin legend Shane Warne was another one who praised Dhoni’s quality leadership.
“He had a calmness about him that was fantastic and he always got the best out of his team…” Warne told Sky Sports. “His players really respected him and responded to the way Dhoni wanted to play the game.”
He again added, “I just wonder if I could get him down to the London Spirit next year for The Hundred,” Warne said. “I might put out a call to see if he wants to play at Lord’s. I’ll find the money, MS!”
