Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed feels ‘glad’ to return to the national team’s longer format ahead of the solitary Test series against Afghanistan as he aims to deliver more hard work so that he can make a room permanent in the squad.

Taskin, 24, made the last of his five Test appearances in September 2017 and managed to get seven wickets before a spate of injuries and loss of form pushed into the periphery.

Before missing Tiger’s World Cup campaign in May and July due to injury, the fast bowler had also been ruled out from the ODI series against New Zealand in February this year, just after showing he was in form during the last edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), being the second most successful wicket taker of the tournament- picking up 22 wickets before getting injured.

Taskin, though, recovered and made his return during in Bangladesh’s tour in Ireland for the tri-nation series that also involved West Indies but the pacer’s fitness tone never really impressed the selection process to put him in play in the tri-nation tournament.

It was the same situation in Bangladesh’s post world Cup tour in Sri Lanka as the right armed fast bowler we seen bowling in the practice game against Sri Lanka Presidents’ XI but not featured any of the three ODIs.

But now, Taskin hopes to keep his fitness at top to make a room permanent in the playing side and he also labeled that expelling period ‘harsh’ but said he has learned a lesson from life.

“I’m really glad to return into the national team Test squad. Now I will work harder and keep my fitness high to hold the place in the team so that I can play also in the upcoming series. And if I get to play, I will try best to work it out. I’m so happy to return,” Taskin told reporters at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

“I felt really harsh then. But then I realized it’s part of life. A fast bowler has to face injuries. And that injury was like an accident. But I’m glad I got another opportunity. I will keep working hard so that I became better.

When asked about his current condition of his injury, Takin said he is working harder so that he can perform. “It’s good now. I am working hard. Doing extra work out so that I can perform,” Taskin said.

Both the new national team head coach, Russel Domingo and pace bowling coach Charl Langeveldt have put good effort on the national team players and that is visible in the training grounds, Taskin said ‘both of them are great’ when asked about them.

Taskin stated that the sessions with the new pace bowling coach are very good and he is working on every skills in training ahead of the Afghans Test with the new recruited South African.

“I’m working with him (Langeveldt) on everything- consistency, line and length everything. Our practice sessions were top and I also I’m working harder on fitness. So the sessions are going well,” Taskin told.

“Langeveldt working on length balls. We have been trying it for quite sometime and when I was playing in Bangalore I did quite well (length ball). And length ball is very important. Everyone is trying it. They are trying to make the bowlers realise that how crucial length ball is.” Taskin told when asked what Langeveldt was currently working on with the national team pacers.

As the national team players are able to execute the directions of the new coaches, the right-armed fast bowler also revealed that the coaches are also happy with their performance in the training camps.

“Our bowlers are working according to his direction. And they (coaches) are happy too, because we are able to execute.” Taskin concluded.
