Bangladesh Test and T20 skipper Shakib al Hasan said that he is disappointed that dressing room news were leaked out during the World Cup as he believe it was not good for the team.

The news of Shakib’s insistence to drop Mahmudullah after the England game raised quite a few eyebrows and had been a subject of discussion for long in the social media.

Another news that also created storm during the World Cup was the one where it was stated that Mohammad Saifuddin did not want to play against big teams and over played his injury to miss the game against Australia.

‘’There is nothing to hide. Who spread this news, should not have done it. And there was news where they said Saifuddin does not play against big teams out of fear. These things are not good for the team’s environment. The players who were in the team, knows made this happen. Did not he play? These things are enough to break a team mentally,’’ Shakib was quoted in a leading Bengali daily when his attention was drawn regarding the incident.

‘’I’m not blaming the reporters. The one who leaked the news from inside should be blamed. When internal discussions are discussed outside, it will effect on our performance. First of all I said nothing like that. And even if I said that who will take that blame of leaking it. There will be lots of discussions among us. And some of the coaching stuffs were also involved in those apart from few who make a decision some matters. It may be someone among them. This is not good. They maybe don’t want the progress of the team. When someone is injured you cannot take someone’s name and say that if he had played it would have been different than certainly it demotivates the players. When these things happen, it becomes really tough to perform. And that day I understood our team could not do anything in this World Cup because of these issues,’’ he said.

‘’At least I understand that, our foreign staffs who were with us did not leak that information. I don’t believe any foreign coach could do that because if I say anything like that to the captain I must have said it in Bengali,’’ he added.

Shakib said Mashrafee performance played a big part for their below par performance in World Cup.

‘’I always believed that we could long way and If we could get help from everyone maybe we could reach the semis. For many reasons many things do not happen. When a player is not performing he starts thinking about his own performance more than the team,’’ said Shakib.

‘’Then it becomes an issue. I think same thing happened with Mashrafe bhai. Because the captain was not performing it became a problem for him and also for the team. The captain has to perform. There is no alternative of it. We were far behind from that perspective but still it was not impossible. We started really well. But we could not maintain it,’’ he said.

Shakib added that he is not very keen to take up the captaincy.

‘’Mentally I am not prepared for those, too. But the team is not in a condition for now and I understand to bring the team in a good shape it would be better if I am around in a shape otherwise I am not getting any interest of doing captaincy in none of the formats,’’ said Shakib.

‘’If I don’t take that role, I can focus on my play more. It will also help the team. I want new players should take responsibility. We took captainship at the age of 20-22. Now they are 26-27. Until you give them the responsibility you won’t understand how they would do. When I was named captain at 22, who knew what caliber was in me. We have Test Championship and T20 World Cup. We should start preparing for next four years from now,’’ he said.
