Mominul Haque once again raised his game to different level at his lucky venue as Bangladesh made a decent progress by reaching 105-2 at lunch on the opening day of the first Test against West Indies at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhoury Stadium in Chittagong.

At the first interval of the day, Mominul was unbeaten on 55, looking untroubled throughout and destined for what would be his sixth century at this venue.

Opener Imrul Kayes scored 44 and was dismissed on the stroke of lunch, tapping a turning delivery off left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican to short-leg.

Kayes and Mominul combined for a 104-run partnership for the second wicket after Kemar Roach gave the side a breakthrough in the first over of the morning session, inducing Soumya Sarkar to poke a moving delivery behind the wicket.

Soumya, recalled after a year in the national team stayed in the crease for two-ball duck.

Kayes struggled and survived twice on 3, when Roston Chase dropped a catch at second slip off Roach’s delivery and on 16, he holed out one to deep square leg but Warrican overstepped to give him a lifeline.

Mominul, who has five centuries at this venue, brought up his 13th half-century with the help of seven boundaries by the first interval.

Bangladesh earlier won the toss and elected to bat first.
