Mashrafe Mortaza bemused by loss

Mashrafe can't fathom how Bangladesh lost

Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza has expressed his disappointment at Bangladesh losing their second ODI against West Indies despite being in a position of advantage.
With 14 runs required from the last two overs, Bangladesh choked and lost by 3 runs in the end, which Mashrafe deems as unacceptable. According to the captain, Bangladesh aren’t learning from their mistakes as they failed to keep their composure and lost the match in the end.
‘Losing these games is disappointing. 14 runs were needed from the last 13 balls with 6 wickets in hand. From there, losing isn’t acceptable. It is also not the first time that this has happened as this has been a recurring event in recent times and that is very disappointing. I think we are not learning from our mistakes, we should have finished this match with ease.

‘It is difficult to explain [what happened]. If we needed 20 runs from 12 balls, then it would have been understandable [to lose]. But with only 14 runs needed from the last 13 balls, it is difficult to fathom what went wrong.
“However, having said that, we are repeatedly making the same mistakes [and losing matches from winning situations]. Maybe we should have been composed under such circumstances. We needed a run-a-ball, so we could have won by taking singles but we couldn’t.”
Bangladesh had won the toss and put West Indies to bat. The hosts put 271 runs on board, thanks to a brilliant ton from Shimron Hetmeyer, and it was just about enough as Bangladesh - despite getting a great start - lost the match by 3 runs in the end.
With this loss, Bangladesh will now to have to win the game at St. Kitts in order to conquer the series against the host and break their winless streak in series of any format that stretches back to 2016, when they beat Afghanistan 2-1 in an ODI series.
