Habibul Bashar speaks about Soumya-Mominul’s WC chances

Member of Bangladesh’s selection committee Habibul Bashar has stated that Mominul Haque and Soumya Sarkar are still in the plans of the selectors. Both Sarkar and Haque had been left out of the ODI series against West Indies but are going to feature for Bangladesh A when they tour to Ireland.
Meanwhile, Bashar believes that it is a great opportunity for Mominul Haque, who is set to captain Bangladesh A for the OD series, and his performances from the tour will be evaluated
‘The World Cup in England is in our minds. If we need someone at the time, we will try him out. Mominul will go [to Ireland tour] as captain [of Bangladesh A], he has always been there in our thoughts. He might not have had a good Test series [against West Indies] but we are aware of his talent.

‘He has been given another chance because there are five ODs and three T20s in the series [against Ireland A] and we will get to evaluate him and the others [that will be in the A team].’
Speaking about Taskin Ahmed, who saw himself out of the game due to injury problems, Bashar claimed that he has recovered from his injury and should use these matches as a means to get back to his best.
‘Taskin [Ahmed] had been injured but he has recovered from it. Being in the side gives him a huge chance to prove himself and return back to his best using this series. He is there in our plans.’
Finally, speaking about Soumya Sarkar, who will captain the A side for the T20 series, the former Bangladesh captain said that they hoped a lot from him in the earlier series but he is still in their plans and will provide him with ample opportunities.
‘Soumya [Sarkar] is out of the [national] side, so this is a big opportunity for him [against Ireland A]. He is going as the captain [for the T20 series]. We had expected a lot from him in the previous series but he is [still] in our plans, which is why we want to give adequate chances to him.’
