Holder pleased as Bangladesh crumble to conclude match within three days

Three days in and the second and final Test has been concluded. While it was expected after the team’s torrid display in the first Test, the manner in which the team bundled up in the fourth innings was a bit of a heartbreak for fans.

After managing to stop West Indies for 354 in the first innings, thanks to a 5-fer from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, three wickets from Abu Jayed and a double from Taijul Islam, Bangladesh’s batting failed them again as they all crumbled for 149 runs.

Captain Jason Holder took five wickets while Shannon Gabriel and Keemo Paul took a couple of scalps with Miguel Cummins taking the remaining one wicket to finish Bangladesh off for the aforementioned 149 runs.

In response, the Windies also fell like a pack of cards in front of Shakib’s fury. The Bangladesh captain took six wickets to crush the hosts for 129 runs and give Bangladesh a glimmer of hope as they now had to chase 335 runs from their final innings.

However, the Tigers fell short despite some valiant efforts from Shakib Al Hasan with the ball. Jason Holder was at his brilliant best as he took six wickets – and a total of 11 wickets in the Test – to finish up Bangladesh for 168 runs.

Shakib Al Hasan scored a superb 54 from 81 balls but couldn’t inspire his team to a win as Bangladesh lose the series 2-0 and go below West Indies in the Test rankings.

West Indies now have 77 rating points while Bangladesh linger at 67 as the former are now at 8 while the latter lie at 9.

After winning the series and also being awarded as its best player, captain Jason Holder addressed the media in his press conference and stated his happiness at being able the series against the Tigers but also stated that the batting could be improved.

"It is a great feeling [to win the series against Bangladesh]. Credit to the bowlers [as] they put us in a position to win the series and also in Antigua we batted once, which is remarkable. Still, a bit of improvement needed in our batting. Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks, we can put it together.

As mentioned earlier, with this win against the visitors, West Indies are now ranked higher than Bangladesh in the Test rankings and Holder states that the rankings were on the back of their minds while also adding that restricting Bangladesh to under 200 in each and every one of their innings was a remarkable feat in itself.

"Against Sri Lanka we felt as though we played some good cricket but weren't able to close up that series and it was something that played on the back of all of our minds. It is good to see the guys come here in Sabina Park and play cricket like we did. We didn't bat as well as we wanted in the second innings, but credit to the guys who came back and fought and bowled them out.

"I don't think Bangladesh got 200 runs [in an innings] in this entire series and that is remarkable by any feat.”

Bangladesh will now be preparing themselves for three-match ODI series against the hosts and will be looking to restore some pride.
