Nurul Hasan reveals secret for success

After Bangladesh were dismantled by West Indies in the first Test – the hosts won by an innings and 219 runs - the only positive thing from the match was Nurul Hasan’s batting.

The wicketkeeper-batsman played a fine inning in the second innings but was the only one to do so as the rest of his team-mates couldn’t live up to the billing. Nurul Hasan made 64 runs from 74 balls and kept his own on the pitch.

In an interview to Cricbuzz, he revealed that the batsmen will have to ensure that they don’t repeat the failures from the first Test in the second Test while also stating that making partnerships in the middle is the most important thing to do.

"Our batsmen need to make sure they don't repeat the mistakes they committed in the opening game,'' Nurul said after the defeat. ''I think one or two partnerships will change the entire scenario of the game. So our main (goal) will remain in building partnerships. There is some extra bounce while few deliveries turn out to be uneven but it is not unplayable.

''We just need to build few partnerships in the middle and it will help us to recover from the disappointment of the opening Test,'' he added.

Assessing his team’s batting performance, Hasan stated that the team didn’t bat well at all in the first innings while they lost a lot of early wickets in the second innings.

''We have spoken about our batting debacle and it was disappointing,'' said Nurul. ''I think we batted badly in the first innings and we lost quite a few wickets early in the second innings,'' he said.

Finally, he hopes that he is able to carry the form in the second Test.

''I will try to carry on the momentum that I picked up while batting in the second innings through playing quite a few deliveries the middle as it had given me the confidence to look forward,'' he said.

The second and final Test of the tour will be on the 12th of July and should Bangladesh lose that match as well, they will slip below West Indies in the Test ranking.
