Bangladesh Test captain Shakib Al Hasan spoke to the media ahead of Bangladesh’s first Test against the West Indies in Antigua. Bangladesh are playing their first Test match in almost five months, but Shakib thinks that the team are well prepared.

He thinks that the break, coupled with the fact that Bangladesh cricket team have been in the Caribbean for a week now and are accustomed to the conditions, makes them well prepared for the tour along with the two-day match that they recently played.

"We had a good break. We haven't played much cricket in the last 2-2 months but we had a very good preparation back at home and we have spent a week here already, so [now] we are used to the climate here. [We have] Played a two-day game and the practice session has been going well and I think the boys are prepared well enough to take a challenge."

Before hosting Bangladesh, West Indies played Sri Lanka in a three-match Test series which ended in a 1-1 draw. Shakib Al Hasan, meanwhile, admitted that the players watched the series and are aware of West Indies’ strengths.

"We watched it [West Indies vs Sri Lanka] on TV. I thought it was a very competitive series against Sri Lanka, both the teams did very well. It is another important series for us and we are looking to do well.

"We all watched the test series agent Sri Lanka, so we know what their attack is, they have some quality bowlers and we have to be at our best to face them.”

Finally, he added that he hopes for the weather to be the same while also adding that the wicket has more grass than usual Caribbean pitches before finishing off by revealing his game plan of not worrying too much about the pitch and focusing more on playing their natural game.

"Weather will remain same I hope. The wicket has more grass than normal Caribbean wickets. I think the boys are after the challenge. I think this pitch will have pace and carry and hopefully, we can adapt to the condition.

"What I would say is to not worry too much about the wicket and [instead] play your natural game and I think that will be good enough for the team.”

Bangladesh will take on West Indies on the fourth of July in Antigua to start the two-match Test series.
