Harbhajan questions MI bowling as tussle with CSK awaits

Mumbai Indians will take on Chennai Super Kings at the Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium. While Chennai are bathing in glory at the top of the table, Mumbai Indians are languishing at the bottom and are in serious danger of missing out on the top four spots.

Chennai Super Kings

The yellow army are blowing the whistle on their opponents to take them out in pure Chennaiyan style! In their last game against the Indians, Kedar Jadhav smashed the winning runs with a ball remaining.

While he might not be there in the team now, he set up the tone for the Kings and they have been on a roll since. The one match that they lost was only by four runs and they now look like the most favourite team to win the tournament.

Predicted XI: Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina, Sam Billings, MS Dhoni, Dwayne Bravo , Ravi Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir, Shardul Thakur

Mumbai Indians

They have lost five games in the tournament and four of them were very close losses. The last one, however, was a terrible display from the reigning champions as they failed to chase 119 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Kieron Pollard has been misfiring and should sit out of the game and be replaced by either Ben Cutting or Adam Milne in an ideal world.

Predicted XI: Evin Lewis, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma (c), Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Ben Cutting, Mitchell McClenaghan, Mayank Markende, Jasprit Bumrah, Mustafizur Rahman

What they said

Speaking to Aaj Tak news channel, Harbhajan Singh claimed that his former team don’t have any bowlers apart from Mayank Markende and Jasprit Bumrah that can trouble the opposition batting.

“Their [Mumbai Indians’] bowling doesn’t look like they can defend any total. Mayank Markende may have taken 10 wickets and is bowling very well but apart from him and Jasprit Bumrah, I don’t think that they have anyone that can trouble the opponents or take wickets.”

Meanwhile, speaking to CricketNext, Aakash Chopra praised the Mumbai Indians’ team and labelled them as a very strong one on paper, but also added that the results haven’t gone in their favour thus far.

"We don't see a lot of weaknesses in their [Mumbai Indians] department. You see Rohit Sharma, he is scoring, you have got Evin Lewis, Ishan Kishan [is] a good youngster, Suryakumar Yadav [is] doing well, Mayank Markende, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Mustafizur Rahman... this team when you look at it on paper, this team is a very complete T20 side, but numbers, performances, results... they haven't gone the way of the defending champions.”

On the other hand, the bowling consultant of CSK, Eric Simmons believes that if CSK can play according to the plan, then they are all happy.

"What we very strongly do in our review is to review the execution of whatever the plan is and not necessarily the outcome because we saw Siraj bowl wide yorkers to MS Dhoni and it went for six, sometimes that's the way it works so if we execute our plans as we wanted to, then we are happy.”

Prediction

Mumbai Indians’ backs are stuck against the wall – which is why they could come out with their arms and legs flailing and grab the win for themselves.
