Virat Kohli fined 12 lac rupees

Things are just getting worse for Virat Kohli, aren’t they? Despite making a score of 205 against the Chennai Supers Kings, the Royal Challengers Bangalore still lost the game after MS Dhoni’s tempest of 70 runs from 34 balls.

It gave Chennai their fifth win in the tournament and shot them at the top of the table. On the other hand, RCB find themselves languishing at six with just four points from six games.

If this wasn’t enough to bring a frown on Virat Kohli’s face, then he now has another reason to be upset. The Royal Challengers Bangalore captain has been slapped with a fine of 12 lac rupees ($18,000 approx.) for slow over-rate offence.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh,” an IPL press release said.

This isn’t particularly surprising given that Kohli was consuming a lot of time in order to halt the onslaught of Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni. There was one instance where the India captain actually took about 30-40 seconds to make a decision to review a call from the umpire on Ambati Rayudu.

In international cricket, 15 seconds is the deadline for the team to choose whether or not to review. While the rules in IPL might be different, it just depicts how Kohli took his time while RCB were bowling.
