Former India Test star sheds light on Mustafizur

During the post-match analysis by ESPNCricinfo, former Indian Test batsman Deep Dasgupta and Australian bowling all-rounder James Faulkner talked about Mustafizur Rahman’s bowling.

The Bangladesh star bowled the 19th over of the game and took two wickets while giving away only a single run to bring Mumbai back in the game. His bowling allowed Ben Cutting to have a total of 11 runs to defend in the last over, something which the Australian failed to do regardless.

Speaking about the Fizz, Faulkner put his slower deliveries among the finest in the world.

"His slower ones are probably ones of the best ones in the world. With the angle [that his slower ones create], it is so hard to get it over the leg side,” Faulker said.

Meanwhile, Deep Dasgupta went in-depth in his analysis on the Cutter Master, stating that using left-handed batsmen against ‘Fizz’ is better since his bowling angle and slower ones make it really difficult for the right-handed batsmen to face him.

"[The reason why he is so good against right-handers is] because one, he has got that cutter as well – apart from the angle, which obviously naturally helps him. But if you look at his numbers against left-handers, they aren't that great. So that's why when Fizz is bowling, you want a left-hander [batting against him].

"It is difficult to pick [his slower ones] because there is a change of grip; some people, they open up early, some people, they open up late. He opens up really late, so it is very difficult to [pick him up].

“As a right-hander, if you want to attack him, you have got to attack him at covers, which not too many batsmen can play. It is a difficult shot because he also has that change of pace. So more often than not if batsmen are going to play a big shot, it would be over midwicket, which is [hard].”

Mustafizur’s great efforts went in vain as Ben Cutting spilled away the runs in the last over. The Fizz, however, ended up as the best pacer in terms of ESPNCricinfo’s smart economy rate with 5.18 runs-per-over under the category.
