With scheduled IPL matches in Chennai to be reportedly moved out, what's the Cauvery issue?

Chennai Super Kings’ homecoming last night – April 10th, 2018 – was marred by protests over the Cauvery River issue.
So, what exactly is the issue?
Cauvery (pronounced as Kaveri) River originates from Karnataka, which is why the state wants a larger share of its water when compared to Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, the major source of water for Tamil Nadu is the Cauvery River and, as a result, aren’t agreeing to give Karnataka a larger share.
The case was forwarded to Supreme Court over hopes of setting up a Cauvery Management Board (CMB). However, the Supreme Court ordered for the inception to be delayed, which stirred a storm among the people of Tamil Nadu, forcing them to take on the streets and protesting against it.
So, what’s the problem with Chennai hosting cricket games?

The protestors don’t want Tamil Nadu to host Indian Premier League games during a time like this as they believe that it would shift the attention and the focus of people away from the Cauvery issue – which is much more pressing and sensitive.
It is for this reason why flocks of protestors didn’t want yesterday’s match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings to take place at Chepauk. Indeed, big celebrities like Rajnikant have also backed the movement against IPL matches being hosted in the state.
Over 4000 cops were deployed for maintaining a smooth-running of the game. Even then, there was some chaos as police arrested 10 persons belonging to the Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi after they were trying to lock the main gate of the stadium.
That was not all, however, as shoes and sandals were hurled on the ground by some visiting spectators, much to the shock of the fans witnessing the game from around the world. The spectators were later caught and detained by the police.
So, what next?
According to several reports, the six remaining games of the Indian Premier League that were scheduled to be hosted in Chepauk are going to be moved out to some other venue, which is yet to be announced.
Just a day after Chennai Super Kings’ homecoming in the IPL, the home team might have to find some other home amidst the unrest in the state.
