Another one bites the dust in red-ball cricket

The current trend in world cricket has seen a mass exodus of players retiring from first-class cricket in order to prolong their career in the limited overs. And the latest one to join the list is Mumbai Indians’ Ben Cutting.
The Australian has played 51 matches in first-class cricket and has taken 170 wickets at an average of 28.41 while also scoring 1561 runs with a decent average of 23.65. He has, however, opted to call it quits with a message on social media site Instagram.

He wrote: “12 years since I first joined the Queensland Bulls, and 11 years since my debut First Class match, the time has come to call my retirement from the Baggy Maroon. I will not be a part of the contract list for the coming season as I choose to turn my full-time focus to both the shortest format of the game and building my business. I can’t thank Queensland Cricket enough for the opportunities at what has been my home for the past decade!”
Ben Cutting joins a list that includes the likes of Alex Hales and Adil Rashid, as they have also refrained from playing red-ball cricket in order to prolong their career in limited overs’ cricket. The Australian has represented his country 7 ODI and 4 T20I and is currently playing for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
