David Willey to the IPL?

England’s rise in white-ball cricket became apparent when 10 Englishmen were bought in the Indian Premier League during the auction that took place in January. That number rose to 12 when Alex Hales and Liam Plunkett were brought in as replacements for the suspended David Warner and injured Kagiso Rabada.

And now, according to a report from Evening Standard, the IPL may have its 13th player in the form of pace-bowling all-rounder David Willey. Two teams are apparently targeting the left-handed pacer that can also bat in the lower order.

Chennai Super Kings might have won their first game due to a superb finish from Kedar Jadhav but the Indian is set to miss at least a month due to a hamstring injury. As a result, Chennai are trying to acquire Willey.

On the other hand, Mumbai Indians are the second team that covet for his signature. Pat Cummins is reportedly still missing and Mumbai need a pace-bowling all-rounder to fill up the void. The report, however, adds that Chennai are winning the race to sign the bowler.

For Willey to be allowed to play in the IPL, he will need a clearance from his county club Yorkshire, who are set to begin their season against Essex on Friday. Yorkshire
have already allowed Liam Plunkett to join Delhi Daredevils as a replacement for Kagiso Rabada and could do the same with Willey.
