Bumrah is the best in the world, says Bond

Former New Zealand pacer and current Mumbai Indians assistant coach Shane Bond has stated that Jasprit Bumrah is the best bowler in the world in the limited overs’ version of the game.

After having a breakthrough year in 2016, he has since taken 106 wickets in limited overs – more than any other bowler in the same period – and will spearhead the attack of the Mumbai Indians. This will be the first tournament in which Bumrah will be the senior pacer in the side after both Mitchell Johnson and Lasith Malinga were released earlier.

And according to Bond, Bumrah is the best in the business.

"Jasprit is the No.1 bowler in the short form of the game. If you talk to anybody in world cricket about the short form game, they will talk about this bloke at the top of the tree.

"Every team is looking for someone who can do a job at the end of the innings in particular and there is no better bowler than Jasprit."

Bumrah, who has been become a known name in the limited overs circuit, only just began his Test career against South Africa and took 14 wickets in his first three Tests. Bond, meanwhile, stated that while has grown a lot as a player and a person, he is still the same when it comes to humility.

"His start in the Test cricket has been fantastic as well," said Bond. "Over the period of three years, everyone has seen him develop into a fine all-round bowler across all formats.

"He has grown up as a person, he is a senior player now. I met him three years ago for the first time. He is still the same -- humble and wants to work hard. “

Bond then spoke about Bumrah’s variations, something that makes him a lethal bowler.

"I think he is a complete bowler. The first thing you talk about him is his yorker. He has also got a good bouncer, moves the ball both way and hits the wicket hard.

"He has got a very good slower ball and a very good read on the game. The more he plays at the international level he is going to get better and better and is a big asset to Indian cricket."

Bumrah will take on the Chennai batsmen on the 7th of April, which is later today, alongside his new bowling partner and fellow death-overs specialist, Mustafizur Rahman. It will be interesting to see how the Super Kings will respond to the devastating duo.
