However, when it mattered most, Khulna found their rhythm. A team that was on the brink of elimination just a few matches ago is now on the cusp of the final. Skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz expressed his excitement over the team’s turnaround.
Khulna knocked out heavyweight Rangpur in Eliminator
6 hrs agoSpeaking ahead of the playoffs last Wednesday, Miraz had remarked that their knockout phase had effectively started early. The reality mirrored his words. With just eight points from 10 matches, Khulna had to win their final two league games to secure a playoff spot. They delivered under pressure, defeating Rangpur Riders and Dhaka Capitals to claim the last playoff berth.
In the Eliminator, Khulna faced Rangpur Riders once again—a team that had strengthened its lineup with stars like James Vince, Andre Russell, and Tim David. But Miraz and his bowlers dismantled Rangpur for just 85 runs, securing a dominant 9-wicket win to book their place in Qualifier 2.
After the match, Miraz revealed how he motivated his team with their recent victories before stepping onto the field for the Eliminator.
"I sent a message to the team saying we are a very dangerous side right now because we’ve won our last two matches," Miraz said.
Miraz: Players play for money
29 Jan 25"We were determined to win. Like the previous two games, this was a do-or-die match for us. We played really well, and I’m proud of the team. Everyone executed the plans perfectly."
Leading from the front, Miraz took 3 wickets for just 10 runs in his 4-over spell. However, it was Nasum Ahmed who was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance, claiming 3 wickets for 16 runs. Miraz didn’t hold back in praising his teammate’s efforts.
"Nasum bowled really well. I told him that on this wicket, he needed to bowl slower and keep the ball fuller. He executed that perfectly."
Khulna Tigers will now face another tough challenge in Qualifier 2 on Wednesday, as they continue their fight for a spot in the final.
