Owen's century, the joint-fastest in BBL history and the quickest ever in a Final, propelled the Hurricanes to a seven-wicket victory, securing the 2024/25 BBL title with the target achieved in just 14 overs.

Owen began his innings in explosive fashion, hitting two fours and a six in the opening over, followed by another six and a four in the second. His aggressive start saw the Hurricanes surpass the 50-run mark in just three overs, with Owen smashing three sixes in the third over alone.

In the fourth over, Owen raced to his half-century off just 16 balls, setting a new record for the fastest fifty in a BBL Final, the third-fastest in the tournament's history, and the quickest ever by a Hurricanes batter.

Hobart's opening duo of Owen and Caleb Jewell amassed 98 runs in the Powerplay, breaking the record for the highest opening partnership in a BBL Final, previously set by David Warner and Jason Sangha earlier in the same match. Owen contributed a staggering 76 runs to the partnership, featuring eight sixes and five fours.

The 23-year-old reached his century in the 10th over, becoming only the second player to score a ton in a BBL Final after Jake Weatherald’s feat in 2015.

His 39-ball hundred set a new benchmark for the fastest century in a Final. Owen eventually departed for 108 off 42 balls, having hit 11 sixes—the joint second-highest in a BBL match and the most in a Final.

Earlier, the Hurricanes won the toss and chose to field. Sydney Thunder’s openers built a strong foundation with a 97-run stand, putting Hobart on the back foot.

However, Hurricanes skipper Nathan Ellis turned the tide with two wickets in two balls during the 11th over, halting Thunder’s momentum. Despite Sangha’s 67-run effort and Warner’s 48, Thunder could only manage 182/7 in their 20 overs.

Thanks to Owen’s heroics, the Hurricanes chased down the target with ease, claiming their first BBL title in dominant fashion.
