The Champions Trophy is set to begin on February 19. Following the BPL, Nabi will head to Pakistan to join Afghanistan's national team conditioning camp.
Taskin shares Rajshahi’s foreign players' situation
10 hrs agoSpeaking at a press conference after practice at the Mirpur National Cricket Academy on Saturday, Nabi emphasized his current focus on the BPL, stating he would think about the Champions Trophy only after completing the T20 tournament.
“It’s a completely different condition and format (in the Champions Trophy), but right now, my attention is solely on the BPL. I’ll think about the Champions Trophy after finishing here,” Nabi said.
While the Champions Trophy isn’t entirely out of his mind, Nabi is preparing for the 50-over tournament alongside his T20 commitments.
“I know I’ll be playing in the Champions Trophy, so I’m keeping my body in shape and maintaining fitness. Alongside T20 matches, I’m preparing for the 100-over format as well. I’m doing extended batting and bowling sessions in practice, which is helping me here and will also help in the Champions Trophy,” he added.
Taskin surpasses Shakib’s record for most wickets in a single BPL season
11 hrs agoThe 40-year-old all-rounder, who will transition to ODI cricket just 10 days after the BPL, doesn’t find the format switch daunting.
“It’s all about mindset. I’m preparing for ODI cricket as well—working on fitness, gym sessions, and recovery. I try to bowl as much as possible and extend my batting sessions in practice. But for now, the main goal is the BPL, and then I’ll move on to the Champions Trophy,” he said.
Before returning to Dhaka for the final phase of the BPL, Fortune Barishal secured six wins in their first eight matches. However, last season’s champions currently sit second on the points table after losing twice to table-toppers Rangpur Riders. A single win from their remaining four matches will secure their playoff spot.
Barishal, however, is aiming higher than just the playoffs. Nabi and his teammates are determined to finish in the top two to secure an additional chance to reach the final.
“We still have four matches left, and our main goal is to focus on these games and keep the team in the top two. All four matches and the playoffs will be held in Dhaka, where we are familiar with the conditions. The wickets are better this year compared to last year, which is why there are high-scoring matches and successful chases. We’re enjoying it,” Nabi said.
