However, despite his return to practice, the left-handed batter is yet to be match-ready. Rangpur has already played eight games, but there is no confirmed timeline for Soumya’s return to competitive cricket.
Soumya believes bowlers will bounce back in T20Is
14 Dec 24Soumya suffered a finger injury during the second T20I against the West Indies on December 18 while attempting a catch off Rovman Powell in the slip cordon. The injury required five stitches, which were recently removed. Soumya is currently undergoing rehabilitation as he works towards full recovery.
Speaking to broadcaster T-Sports, the 31-year-old expressed his delight at returning to the field, even if only for practice.
“The best part is that I’ve been able to come back to the field. I’ve started practicing, and it feels great. This is my second or third day of batting, and I’m gradually improving. As cricketers, it always feels good to be back on the field and working,” Soumya said.
Although there were speculations that Soumya might miss the entire BPL season, his return to training with Rangpur Riders suggests otherwise.

“I’m trying to return as soon as possible, but rushing it could backfire. I’m batting now, but I haven’t started full-fledged fielding yet. I need to go through the proper processes and consult with the physio and doctors. They’ll provide the best guidance,” Soumya explained.
Soumya is also part of Bangladesh’s 15-member squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy in Dubai and Pakistan. While there were concerns about risking him for the tournament, the opener is determined to follow his recovery plan diligently.
“If I rush and injure myself again, the recovery time could double. It’s better to be fully fit before returning. Decisions will be made collectively by me, the doctors, and Rangpur Riders,” he added.
