Matt Renshaw does it again

Fate has a mysterious way of conducting things. When it is in your favour, it just keeps running in your favour. For Matt Renshaw, fate has continued shining on him as someone else’s misfortune has bestowed him with chances.

In his press conference after returning to Australia following the ball-tampering saga, Cameron Bancroft stated that the thing that hurt himself the most was giving away his hard-earned place in the Australian side away for free.

Matt Renshaw took his place after he was suspended for the fourth place. And now, it seems as though Bancroft giving away his place for free wasn’t only confined to the Australian national team as Renshaw has been signed by Somerset as a replacement for the disgrace Bancroft.

After his ban of 9 months was announced by Cricket Australia, he also lost his county contact and was subsequently terminated by Somerset.

“I'm delighted to have the opportunity to play alongside some very experienced players and the exciting young talent that is coming through at Taunton," said Yorkshire-born Renshaw after being signed by Somerset.

"I've heard a lot of good things about the club and I understand that I will be following in the footsteps of some outstanding Australian batsmen.

"It will be a new challenge for me but it's one that I'm really looking forward to."

The 23-year-old had a terrific season with Queensland as his tournament-highest 804 runs from 21 innings helped his team lift the title with 55 points.
