Unmukt Chand sets DPL on fire

The first round of games in the Super League of the Dhaka Premier League has commenced with six clubs participating in three games in a bid to make it to the next phase. The performance of the day has to go to newcomer Unmukt Chand, who smacked a brilliant century to help his team, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi, to a win against Legends of Rupganj.


Rupganj batted first and smacked 260 in their 50 overs with the loss of 9 wickets. Almost every player in the top 6 got starts with Naeem Islam scoring 51, followed by Tushar Imran’s 48 and Parvez Rasool’s 44.


Robiul Haque took five wickets while Tanbir Haydar picked two scalps to stop the Rupganj side for 260.


In response, Unmukt Chand smashed a fantastic 127 runs from 133 balls to give his team the start that they required. Rakin Ahmed’s 52 and Tanbir Hayder’s 66 was enough for Sheikh Jamal to overcome the total within 48 overs.


In the game between reigning champions Gazi Group and Abahani Limited, the latter beat the former with relative ease. Hanuma Vihari’s 109 and Mohammad Mithun’s 72 not-out helped Abahani post a score of 278 with the loss of 6 wickets.

Abu Hider and Mehedi Hasan took two wickets each while Mominul Haque and Nayeem Hasan picked up a scalp each to hold them under 280.


In response, Gazi Group were bowled out for 205 in just 43 overs. Anustup Majumder and Mominul Haque were the only ones that put up any sort of a fight with 64 and 46 runs to their name. Sunzamul Islam bagged four wickets while Mashrafe Mortaza, Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz got two wickets each to help Abahani to the win.


In the final game, Prime Doleshwar beat Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity by three wickets.


Batting first, three batsmen from Khelaghar scored half-centuries. Robiul Islam Robi’s 62, Amit Majumder’s 50 and Ashok Menaria’s 54 helped Khelaghar make 258 with the loss of 8 wickets.


Arafat Sunny was the pick of the bowlers for Prime Doleshwar as he took five wickets to halt the flow of the Khelaghar batters.



With the bat, Prime Doleshwar kept losing wickets but also made the runs with seamless flow. A brilliant team effort with the bat was capped off with a majestic 68 from 37 balls by Farhad Reza to take his team to the shores of victory with 11 balls remaining.


Mohammad Saddam and Hasan Mahmud took three and two wickets respectively, but couldn’t stop Doleshwar from winning it.
