Mushfiqur Rahim’s father cleared of murder charges

While the news of Mushfiqur Rahim being dropped from the
captaincy of the Test team might not have been a happy one for the family, the
news of murder charges against his father being dropped would certainly have
buoyed the family.
Earlier in May, Rahim’s father, Mahbub Rahim, was accused of
murdering a school student in Bogura’s Matidholi area. The victim was named
Mashuk Ferdous and was the son of a rival candidate of Mahbub. In the end, the
judge, Shyam Shundar Rai, cleared Mahbub Rahim from all charges after not
finding enough evidence to put guilty charges against the father of the wicketkeeper-batsman.

Back in May 13, Mashuk Ferdous was killed by unidentified murderers, after which the victim’s father accused Mushfiqur’s father of manslaughter. However, in his defence, Mahbub Rahim claimed that the accusation was a direct result of jealousy and hatred after the latter beat the victim’s father in election for the position of the chairman of the Matildholi High School committee—a position which Mahbub Islam has held for quite a long time.
This news will come as a boost for Rahim and his family as the former prepares himself for the upcoming tri-nation series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka and also a Test and T20I series against the latter.
