Former Australia vice-captain David Warner only just returned to cricket after the infamous ball-tampering saga in South Africa. That incident in Cape Town, which, as it turned out, was instigated by Warner and it not only cost him a place in the Australian squad for 12 months but also removed him from the contention of being the captain or vice-captain of Australia forever.

However, that hasn’t stopped the left-handed batsman from being bestowed a leadership role as Global T20 Canada side Winnipeg Hawks after the departure of Dwayne Bravo.

The West Indian has pulled out of the tournament for unknown reasons and Warner will now lead the side in his absence.

Winnipeg coach, Waqar Younus, meanwhile showed his support towards the decision to make Warner the captain, stating that he is a “good leader” that brings the team together as he always tries to be there for his team-mates.

"I'm sure he's going to be a good leader when it comes to captaincy," Younis said. "[Warner] is a leader. He's a team man. I've seen him in IPL and I've seen him as a leader. He's up there, he's upfront and he likes to give whatever his knowledge is, he's always there."

Warner has a great record when it comes to captaining T20 sides as he led Sunrisers Hyderabad to an IPL win in 2016. He has also led Australia 12 times in T20I and won 11 of those games as well.

Currently, Winnipeg's are leading the table with two wins from three games and a healthy net-run-rate.
