Tom Cooper sends Renegades to the semi-finals

Melbourne Renegades will now go into the semi-finals confidently after their excellent display in all departments against Brisbane Heat. The Melbourne based franchise defeated Brisbane by 26 runs in their last match on Saturday.


Winning the toss at Gabba, Brisbane Heat decided to bowl first. They could dismiss only 3 of the Melbourne batsmen and allowed 187 runs in return.


A 75-run opening partnership was followed by another 83-run partnership in the next wicket which saw Melbourne reach the score of 158/2 in 17.4 overs.


Renegades’ opener Marcus Harris made 42 runs before getting dismissed by Swepson. Another opener – Matthew Short clubbed 62 runs. He was out caught and bowled by Josh Lalor.

Tom Cooper was phenomenal with the bat and scored 65 runs by remaining not out until the very end of their innings. Kieron Pollard managed to score only 1 run before getting out by Steketee. Beau Webster remained unbeaten with his innings of 8 runs off 4.


Brisbane Heat ended up getting all out at 161 runs in 19.5 overs while chasing the big target. A 47-run partnership from Alex Ross and Matt Renshaw in the 4th wicket followed by another 48-run stand from Ross and Ben Cutting powered the team to turn around despite losing 3 wickets in the very beginning.


However, the lower-order could not continue well, as a result, they lost the last 5 wickets scoring 37 runs. Alex Ross played the highest individual innings of 36 runs for his side, followed by Ben Cutting’s 35 runs.




Kane Richardson, Chris Tremain, and Dwayne Bravo worked magnificently to crash the Renegades’ batting line-up. Kane bagged 4 wickets, while the other two bowlers scalped 3 wickets each. Tom Cooper remained wicketless bowling 2 overs but got the Man of the Match award for his batting performance in the 1st innings.
