Adam Voges stands firm to retain top spot


The battle of the top two teams in the Big Bash League ended in Perth Scorchers defeating Adelaide Strikers for the second time in this season. The match on Thursday at WACA saw the Perth based franchise winning it by 4 wickets.
Winning the toss Perth decided to bowl first. Their brilliant performance with the ball managed to curtail Strikers below the par score.
A century from Strikers’ opener Jake Weatherald powered the team to post a score of 137/6. Alex Carey’s cameo of 25 off 18 alongside Jake Lehmann’s unbeaten knock of 21 runs kept their score ticking until the end.
Mathew Kelly, Jhye Richardson, and Tim Bresnan took a wicket apiece for Perth. Mitchell Johnson remained wicketless despite allowing only 17 runs in 4 overs.
Perth Scorchers were also not looking good at the beginning of the chase. They lost four wickets scoring the first 28 runs. However, Cameron Bancroft and Adam Voges built a 77-run partnership which saw the team total go past 100 runs.

Bancroft got out on 49 runs, but Voges remained not out playing a sensational knock of 56 runs. The Perth Scorchers captain was awarded the Player of the Match for his unbeaten innings.
Rashid Khan was again phenomenal among the Adelaide Strikers bowlers taking 3 wickets. Billy Stanlake, Ben Laughlin, and Michael Neser bagged a wicket each too, as Perth sealed the game with 3 balls remaining.
