Sydney Thunder lose the tussle for semi-final

Melbourne Renegades crushed Sydney Thunder’s hope of qualifying for the semi-finals of the Big Bash League after defeating them by 9 runs. Winning the toss, Sydney decided to bowl first and failed to chase the target.

Beau Webster remained not out scoring 18 off 4 deliveries for Renegades. Among the Sydney Thunder bowlers, Gurinder Sandhu scalped 2 wickets, while Mitchell McClenaghan, Chris Green, Fawad Ahmed bagged one wicket apiece.

Despite losing 4 wickets on 51 runs, Melbourne Renegades bounced back with an 85-run partnership from Arjun Nair and Ben Rohrer. Arjun made 45 runs and Rohrer clubbed 48 runs. Both of the batsmen were dismissed by Kane Richardson. Including their departure, Melbourne lost 4 more wickets while adding only 14 runs to the total.
However, Chris Green tried to keep the campaign alive for his team by scoring 22 off 14 balls. Following his departure, Mitchell McClenaghan got dismissed and Sydney Thunder stopped at 180 runs in 20 overs.
Both Kieron Pollard and Chris Tremain took two wickets. Jack Wildermuth and Jon Holland picked up a wicket each but Kane Richardson played the vital role in destroying Sydney’s middle-order batting by taking a four-wicket haul. Kane was also awarded the Man of the Match award for his brilliant performance.
Melbourne Renegades will play their last match of the league-round against Brisbane Heat on 27th January.
