Thunder strike to keep BBL season alive


Melbourne Stars lost their 7th match among the 8 matches they have played in this season. They were defeated by Sydney Thunder on Saturday. With this win, Thunder kept their hopes of qualifying for the next round still alive.
Winning the toss Sydney decided to bowl first. Melbourne Stars posted 147 runs losing 7 wickets. Sydney Thunder chased the runs successfully with 7 wickets and 23 balls remaining.
Stars’ opener Peter Handscomb picked up his half-century and was caught and bowled by Mitchell McClenaghan scoring 57 runs. The only other batsman to go past 30 runs was Seb Gotch. He scored 31 runs before getting out by Gurinder Sandhu.
Among the bowlers of Sydney, Shane Watson and Fawad Ahmed also got a wicket each, while Chris Green bagged 2 wickets.

The middling total could have been tricky to chase for Sydney Stars, but their openers started playing aggressively from the very beginning and built an 85-run opening partnership.
Usman Khawaja was the first man to get out, as Liam Bowe dismissed him on 44. Following Khawaja’s departure, the same bowler took James Vince’s wicket. Vince clubbed 40 runs before returning to the pavilion.
Chris Green got out early scoring 4 runs as Hastings scalped his wicket. Thunder’s skipper Shane Watson remained unbeaten scoring 49 off 28 to ensure his side’s victory. Watson was also awarded the Man of the Match award for his all-round performance.
Melbourne Stars will face the other Sydney side – Sydney Sixers in their next match on 23rd January. On the other hand, Sydney Thunder will take on Melbourne Renegades on 24th January.
