Khawaja shines to frustrate Scorchers


Today Sydney Thunder defeated Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League. Usman Khawaja received the Man of the Match in his very first match in this season of the Big Bash League.
Winning the toss Sydney decided to bat first. They scored a total of 179 runs losing 4 wickets. On the other hand, Perth ended their innings at 176 runs losing 4 wickets.
Usman Khawaja displayed a fine innings and made 85 runs in 51 balls. This man played a pivotal role in Australia's win against England in the last Test of Ashes. Today he was dismissed by Agar.

Kurtis Patterson scored 14 runs before Matthew Kelly took his wicket. Sydney skipper Shane Watson took 21 runs before getting out by Bresnan. Ferguson was out facing Bresnan on 25 runs. Rohrer was not on 22 while Nair picked up 4 runs at the other end.
Perth Scorchers stumbled in the begining as their openers left the pitch early scoring less than 10 runs. However, Bancroft clubbed 75 innings to put Sydney back in the game and remained unbeaten till the end.
The next two batsmen, Turner and Voges, also failed to meet the expectations and returned to the pavilion after making 3 runs and 1 run respectively.
Cartwright accompanied Khawaja till the end and built an unbeaten 137-run partnership with him. Cartwright scored 65 runs and faced all 6 balls in the last over to add 20 runs to their score, but Perth lost the match by 3 runs.
Perth Scorchers will face Adelaide Strikers on 13th January and Sydney Thunder will take on their crosstown rival, Sydney Sixers on the same day.
