23rd match of the 2020 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed another defeat of Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Delhi Capitals (DC) – the team that started in a cracking way but lost their momentum soon after. Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to bowl first. Soon they managed to dismiss Shikhar Dhawan as he hit straight to the mid-wicket off Jofra Archer and Yashasvi Jaiswal did the rest. However, the onus fell upon Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw.

They started to resurrect the innings where Varun Aaron were smashed for a boundary and a six. Their scoring remained the same until Archer came and removed Shaw by taking a catch on his own bowling.

Soon, Iyer also joined him in the dugout and Delhi lost three key wickets inside the power play for 51 runs. Meanwhile, in-form Marcus Stoinis once again proved his worth.

He smashed two sixes over mid-wicket region off Shreyas Gopal in the 7th over and one in the 9th over and lifted DC to 87 after 10 overs. However, he started losing partners from the other end as Pant fell for mere 5. His dismissal brought Shimron Hetmyer in the crease.

Having started in a slow manner, he smashed a six off Andrew Tye over deep backward square leg. However, the partnership didn’t last long as Rahul Tewatia broke it by dismissing Stoinis for 39 off 30 with 4 sixes.

Meanwhile, Hetmyer continued his onslaught and went for 13 runs off Tye. He took on youngster Kartik Tyagi for two successive sixes, one over long-off and the other over deep mid-wicket before Tyagi had the last laugh. While trying for another six, he hit straight to Rahul at the long-on boundary and got out for 45 off 24 with a four and 5 sixes.

Along with them and an 8-ball 17 cameo from Axar Patel took them to a decent total of 181 in 20 overs. While chasing, Jos Buttler started from where he left and hit two fours off Kagiso Rabada in the very first over. However, his onslaught soon took the u-turn as Ashwin came to bowl in the 3rd over and sent him in for mere 13.

Meanwhile, Steve Smith also took on Rabada for two big hits and along with Jaiswal, the duo added 41 runs in the power play. However, the things started changing soon after Smith’s dismissal in the 9th over when Hetmyer’s stunning low catch off Anrich Nortje dismissed him for 24 off 17.

Sanju Samson once again failed to leave the mark when the team needed him. However, Rahul Tewatia came to bat in the 12th over and started to steady the ship. While he stood strong at one end, wickets fell from the other end on a regular interval, courtesy some accurate and economical spells from Delhi bowlers.

Tewatia smashed a six and a boundary off Nortje in the 17th over whereas his next six came off Harshal Patel in the 18th. However, lack of support from the other end made his effort useless and he finally fell for a 29-ball 38 with 3 fours and 2 sixes and Rajasthan Royals lost the game by 46 runs.
