Rajasthan Royals' captain Steve Smith has joined Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer as he has been fined Rs 12 lakh for the slow over-rate during their game against Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. In this game, Rajasthan faced a huge 57-run loss against four-time title winner Mumbai Indians.

"As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Smith was fined Rs 12 lakh," read the official statement.

Mumbai Indians’ right-hand batsman Suryakumar Yadav (79*) played a swashbuckling knock and help his side put up a huge total of 193 for four. His knock came off 47 balls after Rohit Sharma elected to bat at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

While chasing, Royals were reduced to 12 for three before Jos Buttler steadied the ship with a 44-ball 70. However, he did not get support from the other end and Royals could only manage only 136 in 18.1 overs - their third defeat in a row.
For Mumbai, Jasprit Bumrah registered the figures of four for 20. Trent Boult claimed two wickets in the powerplay whereas James Pattinson dismissed Buttler in the 14th over.

“I think losing wickets early doesn't help, we haven't been able to get off to a good start in the last three games,” Smith said after the defeat. “Outside of Jos and Archer at the end, we have a bit of work to do on our batting.”
