Indian politician Shashi Tharoor is known for his straightforward words and he recently commented on the batting great Sachin Tendulkar's captaincy. Being a huge fan of the game, he said that he didn’t like Tendulakr's captaincy skills despite being a legendary batsman.
However, he also shared earlier he felt that Tendulkar could be the best leader of India, but his thought certainly changed after the team’s poor performances under his leadership.

“I thought Tendulkar was the best possible captain of India before he became captain. Because when he was not captain, he was so active - he was fielding in the slips, running up to the captain of the day, giving advice and encouragement,” Tharoor said to SportsKeeda in an interview.
Sachin Tendulkar was handed over the responsibility in 1996, and went on to lead the team in 73 ODIs and 25 Tests but managed only 23 wins while losing 43 ODIs as well. On the other hand, in Tests, he could manage only four wins in his tenure as a captain.
“I said let’s make this guy captain because he really is there in every way. When he became captain, it didn’t work out. He had a not terribly strong Indian team in his days of captaincy, but he himself would admit that was not the most inspirational, motivational captain,” Tharoor added.
“This was partially because he had his own batting to think about. And in the end, he happily gave up captaincy and refused to take it when it was offered again later,” he shared.
Notably, It was under Sachin Tendulkar India faced one of their worst defeats overseas when they lost to Australia by 0-3 in Tests in 1999.
