The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) apex council meeting has been scheduled to take place on Friday via video conferencing to provide more clarity on the fate of IPL 2020 while the domestic cricket schedule is also to be discussed.
It’s learnt from the BCCI sources that a total of 11 points are to be discussed in the much-anticipated meeting. Of them, the fate of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 will get top priority in the discussion.
Talks of a training camp being held in Dubai with the BCCI-contracted players gained momentum a few days ago. With UAE also being one of the preferred destinations for the franchise league – in a case where the COVID-19 situation doesn’t allow BCCI to host IPL in India – holding training camp in the Arab country understandably makes sense.

Though there’s still no official confirmation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) over the postponement of this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia, BCCI hasn’t stopped its planning over hosting IPL in September-October or October-November window.
The management in the Apex Council meeting on Friday could give more clarity on the T20 league’s future, especially with regards to the restart plans.
The Indian team management had asked the BCCI for a 6-week training period for players ahead of any sort of competitive cricket return. Though the Indian players have individually been training since the lockdown began, a national camp is expected to start in the coming weeks even if cricket is to return in September.
The BCCI also gives its focus on restarting domestic cricket in the country as well as the rescheduling of the bilateral series at home against England which was to start in mid-September beside the 2020 IPL.
A possible clash with IPL reportedly saw the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) suspend the series and the BCCI is to discuss a new tentative schedule in the meeting.
