Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chief Executive Officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury thinks that Asia Cup is not called off and still has a chance to go ahead.
“As far as I am concerned ACC management is working on Asia Cup 2020. They are also exploring other options if the tournament can’t be hosted on scheduled time,” Nizamuddin Chowdhury said.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday stated in an instagram chat with an Indian television station that the Asia Cup has been called off although the former Indian skipper didn’t explain a bit about his statement.

“We’ve the first full series in December. Asia Cup 2020 has been called-off which was scheduled to take place in September,” Sourav Ganguly said.
On the other hand, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Media Director Samiul Hasan Burney said BCCI President’s claim has no merit, stating that the decision is up to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to decide whether the tournament will be cancelled or not.
Hasan also said that an announcement of such importance can only be made by President of the ACC, Nazmul Hassan Papon, who is also the president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
“The statements made by Sourav Ganguly have no impact on proceedings. Even if he passes comments every week, they do not hold weight or merit,” Samiul Hasan Burney said.
“The decision regarding the Asia Cup will be taken by the ACC. The announcement can only be made by the president of the Asian body Nazmul Hasan. To the best of our knowledge, the schedule of the next ACC meeting is yet to be announced,” Burney added.
The 15th edition of the tournament was scheduled to be played in September and Pakistan was made the host country by the ACC. However, due to the straining relations between India and Pakistan, BCCI urged to change the venue. Now the most preferable venues for the tournaments are UAE and Sri Lanka but anyone is fixed yet.a
