The third Test between England-West Indies will be named as The Ruth Strauss Foundation Test. England and West Indies will face each other for their first Test match of the three-Test series on July 8, which will mark the return of international cricket.

To support the work of Ruth Strauss Foundation the cricket family will be encouraged to wear red on the second day of the match to show their support to the foundation, while watching it from their home. This will be the second year when cricket will turn red to support the Ruth Strauss Foundation work.

The previous year, Lord’s went red with 28,500 spectators supporting the charity during the second Ashes Test to help raise over GBP 50,000.

“Last year I was humbled and honoured by the support of the wider cricket family. We sincerely hope that the incredible display of generosity and community spirit will continue as we look to turn cricket Red for Ruth for a second year to support the Ruth Strauss Foundation,” said Andrew Strauss, who set up the foundation in memory of his wife who succumbed to an incurable lung cancer in early 2018.

“The day will look very different to last year but we are very grateful to the ECB and Lancashire Cricket Club for their assistance in making this happen during what has been a difficult period for everyone,” he added.

England Test captain Joe Root urged all the fans to wear red while watching the match at their homes and support the charity.

“Andrew is a true legend of our sport and it is almost impossible to imagine what he and his family went through,” Joe Root said.

“Cricket plays a massive part in so many lives and together we can help other families facing these same devastating circumstances. I ask all of our fans across England and Wales to turn red on the day and support this incredible charity,” Root said further.

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chief executive Tom Harrison also showed his gratitude towards the charity and said that he felt honoured to name the third Test the Ruth Strauss Foundation.

“It’s our privilege to name the Third Test in honour of the Ruth Strauss Foundation and to support Red for Ruth Day for a second year running. It’s a cause many of us at the ECB feel very passionately about,” Tom Harrison said.

“I hope that once again we can show how cricket can come together to raise funds to help families going through the toughest of times,” Harrison added.
