Former Pakistan player-turned-coach Aaqib Javed has said that the batting unit of the current Bangladesh team is more mature than Pakistan’s squad.

In a recent interview with a local Pakistan media, Javed compared the Pakistan cricket team with Bangladesh; according to the pacer the batting unit of Bangladesh is more mature than the Pakistan team.

Javed thinks of the time when Bangladesh wasn’t the best team in the 90s and early 2000s.

He praised Bangladesh Cricket Boards (BCB) investments into their national academy which eventually helped the Tigers bring out the best cricketers. He gave credit to Bangladesh’s development programs which have helped cricket to grow dramatically in recent times.

For the past few years, the Bangladesh team has become a formidable opponent. Almost every Test-playing country got the taste of defeat from the Tigers. Even the junior level cricket has made history by winning the Under-19 World Cup earlier this year.

“At the moment, if you compare the Bangladesh batting with Pakistan, you can see that they are not behind. Sometimes they look more mature and seem to have more options in their batting line up than the Pakistan side,” said Aaqib Javed, who played an instrumental role with his right-hand pace bowling prowess alongside Wasim and Waqar Younis during Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup triumph.

“I still remember the time when we used to play with Bangladesh. It was mostly one-sided at that time but recently, Bangladesh has come out with really talented players who actually made their mark at the highest level,” Javed told a local Pakistani media.

“The reason behind this is that Bangladesh was very consistent in their development side. They have a very good and consistent development plan under their national academy. If I compare Bangladesh’s progress with Pakistan, I think, Bangladesh has achieved more in their limited resources than Pakistan,” he concluded.

In addition, Javed retired from cricket at an early stage while he was only at 28. He played 22 Tests and claimed 54 wickets. Besides Test, the pacer played 163 ODIs with 182 wickets in his account.
