The West Indies team arrived in London to play the much-talked-about Test series against England today.

The series comprises three Tests starting at the Ageas Bowl on July 8.

After testing negative for COVID-19, 14-man squad along with 11 reserve players and staff members have travelled from Antigua on a charter flight.

After landing at Manchester airport on Tuesday the squad have been boarded straight to Old Trafford where they will stay for three weeks at the grounds on-site hotel.

Before entering training camp ahead of the first Test, they will be quarantined for an initial period.

Earlier, due to the high risk of the contagion virus, three players from the West Indies side opted not to travel with the squad. Shimron Hetmyer, Keemo Paul and veteran batsman Darren Bravo

On the other side, England have announced a 55 man training group from there they will line-up their squad.

Test skipper Joe Root is possibly going to miss the first Test as his wife, Carrie, is due to give birth to their second child in the first week of July.

The 29-year-old has confirmed that he will not miss the birth of his child but it is currently unknown how he will be able to leave the cricket ‘bubble’ and then make his return.

Vice-captain Ben Stokes might be seen filling the shoes of Root in the first Test and Root has backed the all-rounder to flourish with added responsibility.

“One of his great qualities as vice-captain is the example he sets - the way he trains, how he wants the ball in difficult circumstances, the way he stands up in difficult scenarios with the bat,” Joe Root told to English media.

“He drags people with him, gets the best out of players around him and gives the whole team a lift. People will always follow him, look up to him and want to play for him whether he is captain or not,” Root added.

“If Ben were to captain, I think he would be fantastic,” he concluded.
