Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar said that he suffered embarrassment after having a sore performance in the 2018 Nidahas Trophy Final in Sri Lanka.

The right-handed all-rounder recalls the match memory of playing final against Bangladesh while batting first Bangladesh gave a target of 167 runs, where Shankar was India’s most expensive bowler.

He leaked 48 runs from his four-over spell and with the bat, he managed to score 17 off 19 where the men in blue were supposed to score at a rate of around 11.

Going down the memory lane, the 29-year-old player told how embarrassing it was for him after an awful day. But the former player Laxmipathy Balaji and Subramaniam Badrinath’s words of wisdom motivated him to move ahead.

“I learnt two big lessons at an early stage from Badri and Bala (L Balaji). Badri said to me – ‘if you’re good enough no one can stop you from playing at the highest level’. And Bala told me – ‘life is all about handling embarrassments,” Vijay Shankar said.

“While it sounded something big at that time but when I started experiencing it, I understood it really well,” Shankar was quoted as saying in a show.

India were in need of 35 runs from the last three overs of the game and Shankar played four dot balls delivered by Mustafizur Rahman, who got a wicket maiden after getting rid of Manish Pandey.

“After Nidahas trophy, it was embarrassing for me. While overcoming these embarrassments, I remembered these lessons shared by them and it helped,” the all-rounder added.

However, on the final over of Soumya Sarkar, Shankar got a boundary and brought the target down to five off two balls. But right after that, he got caught by Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Though the final touch was made by Dinesh Karthik who sealed the deal for the team India.
