Sri Lanka opens its residential training camp with 13 bowlers

Sri Lanka will be the first country in the Indian sub-continent to start a training camp for the cricketers amid the coronavirus pandemic.


Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has asked its 13 national players to undergo a 12-day residential training camp starting from June 1.

The training camp will be of bowlers across all formats of the game, will train at the Colombo Cricket Club. They will stay at a hotel for the entirety of the training period.


“The 12-day ‘Residential Training Camp’ was implemented, taking into consideration the health regulations imposed by the Government, which specifies cricket as a ‘High Risk’ sport and needs residential training,” the SLC stated in a media release.


“SLC has taken all required measures in consultation with the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Health to ensure the safety of every individual involved in this exercise, and has formulated a set of procedures to adhere, during the camp period and before,” it added in the press release.



Disinfected vehicles will be used for transportation during the training period, while health officials have already visited the hotel and practice venue to provide health guidelines. Meanwhile, the players will not be allowed to leave the hotel or the practice venue to attend to personal matters during this period.
